Regina Pioli Re-Signs with Bayside for the 2023 Season

Bayside Real Estate, Top Mexico Broker, #1 Coastal and Urban Specialists, is proud to re-sign Regina Pioli to its Bayside Real Estate Surf Team. The Huatulco, Mexico-based professional surfer wants to continue improving her form, surf bigger waves, train more intensely and qualify for the Pan-American Games. Regina is ultimately shooting for an Olympic spot.

Regina was born and raised in Huatulco. She started surfing when she was 17. She didn’t have any particular ideas about surfing 14 years ago, but she says, “I had the board, friends invited me and I just went. I practiced, it was definitely a challenge, but a fun and invigorating challenge… and I haven’t stopped since.”

Regina encourages young people to try surfing. She says it’s fun and worthwhile, being in the water, with nature and friends. “With a little patience, all you really need is to want to do it. You can develop your skills along the way with your friends or an instructor.”

As a woman, in the beginning, Regina says she felt there were more men than women and that the general idea was that men were stronger… but she says she actually discovered the sport is open and about equality with many men, women and children surfing. Regina says there are many strong, talented girls in the sport fighting for their dreams.

Regina has surfed in Australia, Japan, Philippines, Morocco, Portugal, France, Panama, Peru, and the U.S. but our Oaxaca Coast waves are still her top pick. She says the waves are consistent and long with perfect barrels and it’s not crowded. She learned to surf at El Mojon which still holds her heart, a local spot, 20 minutes form Huatulco.

This past Thursday evening was a time for celebration in Costa Cumana, Puerto Escondido. Hosted at Casa Zee, the Bayside team gathered with close family and friends of the surf community. JJ (local surfer and friend) welcomed the small crowd and introduced Bayside CEO Brent May. May explained why he and his wife feel it is so important to give back to the community in the name of sport and why and how they select the athletes they do for sponsorship. May also expressed his gratitude for a life on the Oaxaca Coast and welcomed Regina Pioli and fellow teammates to the Bayside Surf Team.
